How the handicap works
Your handicap starts from your skill level (Novice β4, Amateur β2, Veteran 0) and then becomes yours: each week we blend that starting number with the average of your best rounds so far, so by mid-season your handicap reflects how you actually play β not the level you signed up as. We subtract 80% of the gap rather than all of it, so better golf still wins on average, but everyone on the leaderboard is within reach every week. And because only your best rounds count, a bad round β accidental or intentional β can never raise your handicap. The only way up the Chasing 36 leaderboard is to play well.
Details: Net = Gross β Handicap. Handicap = 80% of a blend between your level's starting number and the average of your best half of rounds (measured against a scratch of 33), rounded, never below 0, never more than 2 above your starting number, and it can rise at most 1 stroke per week. Season standings count your best 5 of 6 net rounds.
Prizes
Grand Prize: best cumulative net over your best 5 of 6 weeks. Weekly Skins: lowest unique score on each hole wins that skin β Novice, Amateur, and Veteran skins are separate, so you only compete against your own level. Closest to Pin (weeks 3 & 5): everyone competes together on a designated hole, no handicap. Worst Hole Eraser: once per season, one blow-up hole in one round gets replaced with par 4 β ask the commissioner to apply yours. Skins carry over: if a hole ties (no unique low score) it rolls into the next week someone wins it outright, stacking the prize.
